Glyph AI overview

Glyph AI helps you chat about notes, attach context, and (with tools on) create work in your Space. Open a Space first. AI settings live under Settings → Glyph AI. The chat UI is the Glyph AI panel in the sidebar.

Enable AI features

Turn on AI features in Glyph AI settings. With AI off, the panel stays inactive. With AI on, you pick agents or API-backed models and start chatting.

AI profiles and keys are per space. What you configure for one Space does not apply to another. Switch Spaces and you switch AI setup with them.

Tools on vs off

ToolsMode
OnCreate mode: the agent can take actions that create or change work in the Space
OffChat-only: conversation without create tools

Use chat-only when you want answers and drafts in the panel. Turn tools on when you want the agent to create notes or other work for you.

Start with tools off until you trust the flow for that Space. Enable tools when you are ready for create mode.

Chat in the Glyph AI panel

  1. Open a Space.
  2. Open the Glyph AI sidebar.
  3. Type a message and Send.
  4. Use Stop if a reply is still running and you want to cancel.

History keeps prior chats for that Space so you can return to earlier threads. History stays with the Space profile, same as keys and agent choice.

@ context

Type @ to attach files or folders from the Space as context. The model sees what you attach along with your message.

Attach the notes that matter for the question. Attach a folder when the topic spans many files. Clear or change attachments when you switch topics so old context does not confuse the reply.

What you need open

Glyph AI needs an open Space. Without a Space, there is nowhere to attach files, store history, or keep per-space profiles and keys.

Open the Space you want to work in, enable AI features, then open the Glyph AI panel.

Profiles per space

Each Space has its own AI setup:

  • Whether AI features are on
  • Tools on or off
  • Which agent or provider you use
  • API keys and local endpoints

You can run Codex in one Space and an OpenAI key in another. Nothing forces one global AI profile for every Space.

Agents vs API keys vs local models

  • Agents (Codex, OpenCode, Amp, Claude Code, PI): use installed CLIs and existing subscriptions. No Glyph API key for these.
  • API keys: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google/Gemini, OpenRouter, OpenAI compatible. Keys stay with the space.
  • Local models: Ollama, llama.cpp, or OpenAI-compatible local servers with Allow local network.

See the matching guides for setup detail.

Tips

  • Keys stay with the space. They do not upload to a Glyph cloud service for storage.
  • Stop cancels an in-flight reply; send again when you are ready.
  • If the panel does nothing, confirm AI features are on and a Space is open.
