Navigating notes (sidebar)
The left sidebar is how you move through a Space. Show or hide it with Toggle Sidebar (Cmd+Shift+B).
Quick actions
At the top of the sidebar you get shortcuts into common views:
- New Note: create a note in the current target folder
- Pinned: notes you pinned for quick access
- All Notes: activity timeline or classic grid of notes
- Collections: saved table and board views
- Connections: graph of notes and tags across the Space
Click one to open that pane. You can return to the file tree and keep browsing.
Notes tree
The Notes section shows folders and Markdown notes as a tree.
Sort
Open Sort notes and choose an order:
- Name A-Z / Name Z-A
- Modified newest / Modified oldest
- Created newest / Created oldest
Pick the sort that matches how you hunt for files.
Expand and collapse
Use Expand all folders or Collapse all folders when the tree is deep. Collapse Notes / Expand Notes folds the whole Notes section in the sidebar.
Click a folder chevron to open or close that folder. Click a note to open it in the editor.
Tags and People
Below the tree, the Tags section lists tags used in the Space. People appears when you use people mentions. Click a tag or person to filter or search related notes.
Use Show more when the list is long, and Show less to shrink it again.
Context menus
Right-click a note or folder for actions. Common labels include:
- Open / Open in New Window
- Show in Finder
- Copy Relative Path / Copy Absolute Path
- Rename
- Duplicate file
- Pin file / Unpin file
- Icon & Color…
- Add file / Add folder / Create from template
- Delete file / Delete folder
Exact items depend on whether you clicked a file or a folder.
Drag to move
Drag a note or folder onto another folder in the tree to move it inside the Space. Glyph updates paths and can rewrite links when a rename or move requires it.
Prefer drag-and-drop or Move Active File inside Glyph over moving files only in Finder when notes link to each other.
Folio tree: folders only
With Folio Mode on (Settings → Appearance → Folio Mode), the sidebar tree shows folders only. Notes appear in the middle Folio list. Pick a folder (or All Notes / a tag / a person) to fill that list, then open a note in the editor column.
Tips
- Hide the sidebar with
Cmd+Shift+Bwhen you want a wider editor. - Use Pinned and All Notes when the tree gets large.
- Sidebar and navigation shortcuts are remappable in Settings → Shortcuts.
