Carry unfinished tasks forward

Daily-note rollover lets you review unfinished tasks from earlier days and move the work to today or tomorrow. The task history stays linked to the daily notes involved.

Before you start

Set a Daily Notes folder under Settings → Space. Daily files must use the expected YYYY-MM-DD.md names in that folder.

Open today’s daily note in Rich mode. Turn Zen mode off to see the rollover controls. The overdue review is available on today’s note; individual task actions also work on eligible tasks in earlier daily notes.

Review overdue tasks

  1. Open today’s daily note.
  2. Open the overdue-task review when unfinished work is available.
  3. For each date group, select all tasks, review them individually, or skip the group.
  4. Choose Move to today or Move to tomorrow.

Individual review lets you select or skip each task. You can cancel before moving the selected work.

The review includes details about nested tasks when a task has them. Read those details before moving a whole task block.

Move one task

In an eligible daily note, place the cursor in an unfinished task. Use the task’s rollover controls to send it to today or tomorrow when that destination is available.

Today and tomorrow refer to the current date, not the day after the source note.

What happens to the notes

Glyph adds the task block under an Overdue section in the destination daily note. In the source, it checks the moved task block and adds a Moved to link. The destination keeps the task block’s original checkbox states and adds a Moved from link. Use those links to follow the task’s history.

If the destination daily note does not exist, Glyph creates it. It uses the daily template when one is available, or the normal date heading otherwise.

When the controls do not appear

Check that:

  • The note is a dated daily note in the configured folder.
  • You are using Rich mode with Zen mode off.
  • The note is today or an earlier date.
  • There are eligible unfinished tasks.

Tasks already marked as moved are excluded from another rollover from that source. Checklist examples inside code blocks or blockquotes are not treated as ordinary rollover tasks.

If a note changes during the operation, Glyph may stop the move. Reopen the review against the latest content before trying again.
