Weekly, monthly, and quarterly notes

Period notes give you one Markdown file for a week, month, or quarter. Use a weekly note for a plan, a monthly note for a review, or a quarterly note for goals.

Turn on period notes

1. Open a Space.
2. Go to Settings → Space.
3. Set the Daily Notes folder.
4. Enable Weekly, Monthly, or Quarterly notes as needed.

These three options start off disabled. Enabled periods become available through the sidebar, calendar, and matching commands. They use the Daily Notes folder alongside your daily files.

Open a period note

Use the matching weekly, monthly, or quarterly action to open the current period. Use the calendar’s period controls when you want another period.

If the file exists, Glyph opens it. Otherwise, Glyph creates it using that period’s template, or a heading when no template is set.

File names

With Journal as the Daily Notes folder, the monthly example lives at Journal/2026-09.md.

Weekly names use the ISO week and ISO week-year. Around New Year, that year can differ from the calendar year of a day within the week.

Choose separate templates

In Settings → Space → Templates, set your Templates folder, then choose a template for each enabled period. You can use different files for daily capture, weekly planning, monthly reviews, and quarterly goals.

Placeholders expand when Glyph creates the note. Date placeholders use the period’s starting date:

• Weekly: Monday of the ISO week.
• Monthly: the first day of the month.
• Quarterly: the first day of the quarter.

Changing a template does not rewrite period notes that already exist.

A simple routine

Open the weekly note to choose the week’s work. Use daily notes for the details. At the end of the month, link to the weekly notes you want to revisit in your monthly review.

Period notes are ordinary Markdown files. You can add checklists, tags, properties, and links just as you would in any other note.
