Customize the sidebar

Choose which navigation items appear in the sidebar and put the ones you use most near the top. Open Settings → Sidebar to change the layout.

Show or hide items

Use the toggle beside an item to show or hide it. Available items include Agent, New Note and Canvas, All Notes, Collections, Connections, Calendar, Search, period notes, Quick Note, Templates, and Git Sync.

Hiding an item removes its sidebar entry. It does not disable the feature or delete its content. You can still use available menu actions, commands, and shortcuts.

New Note and Canvas share one layout entry. Showing or hiding that entry affects both creation controls.

Change the order

Drag an item’s reorder handle up or down in Sidebar settings. Release it in the position you want.

Put capture actions near the top if you create notes often. Put Collections and Search first if you mostly return to existing work.

The sidebar layout is an application preference and applies across Spaces on this Mac.

Restore the default layout

Use Restore default sidebar layout to reset visibility and order. This resets the navigation layout without moving notes or changing their contents.

When an enabled item is missing

Some features have their own prerequisites. Agent needs AI features enabled. Weekly, monthly, and quarterly notes need their respective options enabled in Space settings.

Turning on an item’s sidebar visibility does not enable those underlying options for you.

Give tags their own icons

1. Turn on Beautiful Tags under Settings → Editor.
2. Open the Tags section in the sidebar.
3. Use a tag’s icon picker to choose an icon.

Tag icon choices belong to the Space. They change how the tag appears without renaming it or changing which notes match it.

Note and folder appearance is separate. Use Icon & Color… from a note or folder’s context menu when you want to customize those items.
